What's a muse?

One of the divine nine. The ancient Greek goddesses who gave artists inspiration and hung out on Mount Helicon. They are Calliope  (epic poetry), Thalia  (comedy), Melpomene  (tragedy), Clio  (history), Terpsichore  (dance), Erato  (lyric poetry), Euterpe  (music), Ourania  (astrology), Polymnia  (sacred music and mime). Nine is my lucky number, and I've written a lot about women, some of whom are set up as goddesses, and others who are just trying to get by. They are all muses to me.

What's to muse?

To muse is to think, and deeply. To be absorbed in thought so that onlookers think you're away with the fairies.
